Keep in mind the reality of Alaska radio…everyone usually ends up doing a little of everything.
SALES MANAGER – Responsible to solicit advertising from local, regional and national companies, study and understand the station's market, develop sales plans and goals, write copy, maintain regular contact with clients, and oversee billing, traffic, and the annual fundraiser.
ENGINEER – Responsible to maintain all transmitting and receiving equipment, all computers and all audio equipment, maintain engineering records and equipment file. Must have a strong computer background and must know or be willing to learn RF Technologies.
WEB MASTER – Responsible to design, maintain, and develop NLN web sites into effect tools for outreach and must be willing to help in other areas of station operations. Familiarity with Macromedia is a plus.
OFFICE MANAGER – Responsible to support the sales staff and managers by handling much of the office work. This person should have strong organizational abilities, writing skills, and a solid working knowledge of computers.
ANNOUNCER – Responsible to read news, weather, public service announcements, DJ live music shows including show prep, provide voice work for commercial and promotional announcements, and participate in remote broadcasts.
NEWS DIRECTOR – Responsible to oversee the news department, organize local and regional news for upcoming newscasts, and develop news contacts (stringers) in surrounding communities to increase local and regional news coverage, oversee public service announcements, and maintain the public file.
MUSIC DIRECTOR – Responsible to manage the station's music library, prepare ASCAP & BMI reports, look for sources of new music, work with the Program Director in selecting and scheduling music to air for a variety of genres, and will take on some announcer duties.
STATION MANAGER – Responsible to set the direction for the radio station, provide administrative oversight, and act as liaison to NLN President. Duties include setting goals, training and motivation of staff, scheduling, budget preparation, bookkeeping and FCC compliance. Also needs to be willing to help in sales, promotions, and on-air duties when necessary.
PROGRAM DIRECTOR – Responsible to schedule programs, maintain relationships with third-party programmers, and help with production and on-air duties when necessary. Individual must study the audience and ensure the station is effective.
PRODUCTION DIRECTOR – Responsible to work closely with the Program Director, Promotion Director, and Sales Manager to create the Station’s image spots and commercials, and will perform some announcer duties. They must have strong copy writing and audio production skills.
PROMOTION DIRECTOR – Responsible to work closely with the Program Director and Sales Manager to create on-air promotions and community activities, and must maintain relationships with churches in the station’s broadcast area.
SPORTS DIRECTOR – Responsible to oversee the station’s broadcasts of community and national sporting events, do the play-by-play coverage of a variety of local sporting events, and assist the sales manager in selling these events.
